What Is Once-A-Year Fire Ant Control?

Once-A-Year Fire Ant Control is a service we offer that typically consists of 2 visits to control your fire ants for 1 full year.

The 1st visit eliminates the ants that are there now. The 2nd visit prevents them from coming back for 1 full year!

Visit One.

We apply bait for fire ants. We use a bait that ants love and they take the bait back to their nest.

Our Fire Ant Bait works in two ways.

  1. Our fire ant bait contains hydramethylnon, which is a stomach poison to the ants.
  2. Our Fire Ant Bait Contains methoprene. Methoprene is an Insect Growth Regulator (I.G.R.) which prevents the ants from molting.

Visit Two. (Usually within a week)

We apply a product containing the active ingredient Imidochloprid. Imidacloprid works by blocking the action of a receptor called the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor. This receptor is essential for the transmission of nerve signals, so blocking its action disrupts the nervous system and eventually kills the insect.

Imidacloprid doesn’t hurt mammals because it targets a specific receptor in the insect nervous system that is not found in mammals. This receptor, called the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR), is essential for the transmission of nerve signals in insects. When imidacloprid binds to this receptor, it blocks the transmission of nerve signals and eventually kills the insect.

Mammals do not have this receptor, so imidacloprid cannot effect them the same way.

WHAT CAN I DO TO AVOID FIRE ANTS?

Not much unfortunately. Avoiding conditions such as an overwaterd lawn will help to make your lawn less attractive to fire ants.
