FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS; Rats, Mice, & Rodent Control Services:

How long after a rodent infestation can new rodents still smell the old infestation and be attracted to my home?

They can smell it for years.

Rodents have an incredibly keen sense of smell. They use this sense to find food, water, and potential shelter. Even after a rodent infestation has been eradicated, the lingering scent of their presence can attract new rodents to your home. This is because rodents are territorial animals, and they often return to areas where they have previously found food and shelter.
It’s important to note that this lingering scent can persist for years. Rodents can detect pheromones and other chemical signals left behind by previous occupants, which can draw them to your home. This is why it’s crucial to address any rodent infestation promptly and thoroughly.

To effectively prevent future infestations, it’s essential to perform a complete rodent exclusion. This involves sealing up all potential entry points, such as gaps, cracks, and holes, to deny rodents access to your home. By taking these preventive measures, you can significantly reduce the risk of future infestations and protect your property from damage and health risks.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes, Rodent Exclusions include a 1-year warranty guarantee.

Rats are getting into my attic via a damaged area of my roof. Should I call a roofer to fix the damage?

Yes and No. Depending on the damage or work needed, using a roofer to permanently repair the areas allowing rodents entry will allow for a permanent repair. Avoid sealing rodents in your attic. We will work with you to control the rodents while the roofers effect repairs to your roof.

What kind of roof repairs do you do?

We often seal vents, close soffits, or install mesh screen to prevent rodents from gaining access to your home.

Can rats come through the toilet bowl?

Yes. Though uncommon, it can happen. Normally, rats only come through the toilet bowl during hurricanes or similar weather events. We’ve only heard about them in vacant houses. Since the house is vacant, rats may be attracted to those particular homes because their drain line is dry where it connects to the sewer. We’ve never had a customer experience toilet rodent activity in an occupied home.

What steps should I take to prevent rats in my house?

-Keep trees trimmed away from your house.
-Check the base of your garage door to make sure it’s tightly sealed.
-Seal up any cracks or holes in your house.
-Do not leave fruit from trees laying on the ground.
-Keep food and water bowls indoors at night.
-Avoid clutter & debris outside.
-Compost away from your house.
-Avoid letting your palms produce fruit.

Can rodents infest cars?

Yes, parked cars provide rats a place to build nests. If the car is parked near a rodent food source like a fruiting palm tree, it is even more at risk or rodents. Rodent nesting and gnawing activity has the potential to cause extensive damage.

What are the signs of rodents in a home?

-Droppings: Rodent droppings are small, dark pellets that are about the size of a raisin.
-Gnaw marks: Rodents will gnaw on wood, plastic, and other materials to sharpen their teeth.
-Noises: Rodents are nocturnal animals, so you may hear them scuttling around or gnawing at night.
-Nests: Rodents will build nests in out-of-the-way places, such as attics, basements, and garages.
